The view from my window…

The view from my window changed today... it has been snowing during the night! Finally I'm not too unhappy I decided to stay home today to paint or draw. Sometimes the choise is difficult as spending a lot of time at home can be frustrating. Specially when I don't manage to get anyting good out on the sheet of paper. That's when it makes me feel like I've been loosing my time.
In this sketch, at least I got the mood of view, I think. These a little funny colors at the trees made it, even though I don't think anyone else would have agreed that they were visible. I'm glad I can listen to my  feelings and to the painting itself sometimes, as it tells me what to do and surprises are then poping out.
This is all about this view for now...

My Moleskine today (10)…

Just found something to draw and that fits into my mini serie of drawings in my Moleskine! Not so easy to get the hand on wild animals!
Little things make me feel like drawing it right away...

The execution of a studio drawing (3)...

... and this is it.

.... a little further...

This is a new compositon for a studio study...
It makes me feel good every time a do this kind of work, it's done very slowly and my state is like very calm very shortly. Just what I need lately...
The challenge with this drawing is going to be how to get a movement and "action" with three "similar" objects in a kind of symetrical composition and with a front view. It's also important, as always to make the spectators eyes travel trough the drawing without escaping out of it's borders and to the give him or her the feeling there are more to discover when looking harder.

Engravings... (2)

This apple is my first engraving on zinc. The result is better and it's easier to do details, but the shadow here is not very "delicate" so I'm glad I learn from every new try, for now.

These two prints never got better than this, as I overworked the top one and I prefered to leave them both to continue with a new attempt. A tried to engrave a zinc plate this last time, which turned out to be much easier for me than those made of tin.
I'll show the result next week as a leave the print to dry.
Well, well, this is not easy!
Each step of doing engravings is very delicate and quind of unpredictable for now. I imagined the most complicated and difficult would be to engrave. But not, I was wrong! The application of the ink and the "wiping off" the ink is just as subtle to do. So when printing I'm never very sure of the result. I'm supposed to be able to reproduce the same print several times and I'm terribly far from that. I don't even get a print that looks better and better! A new surprise each time! Or deception more like...
But I won't give up! I wish to get the result I want at the end, no matter the time it will take to get there!!
So, more to come next week...

Urban landscapes in watercolor...

This is first of a serie of paintings I will be working on from today, for the following weeks.
Urban landscapes in which I will prior simplicity, light and values. I also should work on my coloured greys and whites, so I have to try to develop and use those. I like when there is contrasts in paintings so I hope there will be some in the final results.
Well now, I  "only" have to keep to my goals...

The execution of a studio drawing (2)...

I better stop... hope this is my last word!

Well, some hours of drawing later. I stop here for now. I feel like it's finished, but I'll will leave it a few days to see what I think then.
(a few hours later...)
I already see thing I want to modify, so I'll be back on it soon I guess...

Another studio drawing I had started a while ago and that I have worked on today. It's not finished, I will have to bring some more life and mouvement into it, don't know how exactly yet...

Engravings... (1)

As I sad here below today, I've started I course to learn engravings. Until now we have only done "monotypes" and this was the result of my first try. I didn't have time to finish this and I'm not sure that you'll see what I wanted to represent. Anyway, with the monotype you can get lovely blacks and whites, and that's what might save this one from a complete failure (for the curious, it's an apple with a few leaves left on it...).
